Massage is manipulation of the deep and superficial layers of muscle and connective tissue to enhance function, promote relaxation and well-being. It involves acting on and manipulating the body with pressure: structured or unstructured, stationary or with movement - all tension, motion, and/or vibration are done manually with movements that follow the direction of blood flow to the heart.
Most techniques can and will positively affect muscles, tendons, ligaments, skin, joints, or other connective tissue, as well as the lymphatic system, blood pressure, and organs of the gastrointestinal system. The result is improved circulation and greater flexibility, reduced stress and an overall sense of improved health.
